John Qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1999 and began his career in Trauma Plastic Surgery. After 18 months working in plastics John transferred to a burns Intensive Care Unit where he spent 11 years working with patients who had sustained major burn wounds. During his time working in burns John spent a year in Toronto, Canada working at the Ross Tilley Burns Centre, one of the largest burn centres in North America. John also helped set up wound care service in Gambia and Senegal, providing basic and complex wound care to the residents of Banjul and the outlying islands of Senegal.

After leaving the burns service John spent six years working as the lead Wound Care Clinical Nurse Specialist for Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals, where he was responsible for ensuring appropriate wound care was being provided for patients at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, the Princess Royal Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital. His passion is pressure ulcers and chronic wounds, with a keen interest in nurse wound care education. John is Specialist Wound Care Advisor to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and teaches wound care to pre and post registration nurses at the University of Brighton.
