Surgical Wounds

When the stitches are removed or the stitches below the skin or adhesives dissolve the wound has usually healed.

Occasionally these wounds might not heal with these methods and may open up following removal of sutures or following an infection. This is a relatively uncommon occurrence but when it does occur your GP may refer you to one of our Wound Healing and Lymphoedema Centres for further treatment.

When you are first reviewed at one of our Centres you will be assessed by a member of staff skilled in the management of wounds and we will work with you to develop a wound management plan which will involve advanced wound healing methods . We will communicate with your GP and your Surgeon as appropriate to make sure everyone involved in your care is kept up to date of your progress.
